Alan Davies, born Manchester, England, December 5, 1961. Alan Davies signed for Manchester United on associate schoolboy forms in 1976. Another promising prodigy to rise up through the youth ranks, Davies was given his First Division debut by Ron Atkinson in a 1-0 victory against Southampton at Old Trafford on the 1st of May 1982 and remained on the books of the club until the summer of 1985.
Although Alan Davies appeared in both matches in the unforgettable 1983 FA Cup Final against Brighton and Hove Albion, he was limited to only seven first team appearances for Manchester United between 1978 and 1985. As he failed to live up to his early promise, he was eventually transferred to Newcastle United for a fee of £65,000 at the beginning of the 1985-86 campaign. Unfortunately, the midfield player never found his feet at St James´ Park and he had loan spells with Charlton Athletic and Carlisle United before he was dispatched to Fourth Division Swansea City in the summer of 1987. The move to Wales helped the frustrated footballer revitalise his career and he played an important part in Swansea’s promotion success in 1988. With The Swans, Davies went on to make 84 League appearances for the club before he was sold to Bradford City for £130,000 at the end of the 1988-89 season. But after playing just 26 League games for the team, he followed manager Terry Yorath back to Vetch Field in exchange for Robbie James in the summer of 1990. Born in Manchester to Welsh parents, he was eligible to play for Wales and won 13 full caps after making his debut in a 1-0 British Home Championship victory against Northern Ireland at Windsor Park on the 31st of May 1983. In the end, he became disillusioned with his sport and tragically committed suicide in February 1992.
