Peter Boleslaw Schmeichel, born Gladsaxe, Denmark, November 18, 1963. Peter Schmeichel appeared for Gladsaxe-Hero, Hvidovre, and Brondby before he joined Manchester United for a bargain fee of £500,000 in 1991. While at Old Trafford, Schmeichel won the Premier League on five occasions and the FA Cup three times, as well as the Champions League.
Brave and strong and good in the air, Peter Schmeichel made his First Division debut for Manchester United in a 2-0 win over freshly promoted Notts County at Old Trafford on the 17th of August 1991, and was to become a key member in the now legendary team of the 1990s. The pinnacle of his goalkeeping career no doubt came when United won the coveted treble of the English Premiership, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League in 1999, and the massive netminder went on to make 392 first class appearances for The Reds before he left the club for Sporting Lisbon at the beginning of the 1999-2000 season. The Great Dane later played for Aston Villa and Manchester City before he finally called it a day at the end of the 2003-04 campaign. In his prime, he was also a regular member of the talented Denmark side of the early 1990s and one of the main contributors to his country’s surprise triumph in the European Championships in Sweden in 1992.
