Frank Kopel, born Falkirk, March 28, 1949. A committed and dedicated defender, Frank Kopel appeared for Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Dundee United, and Arbroath in an 18-year career.
Frank Kopel initiated his career at Manchester United as a schoolboy in 1964 and turned professional in 1966. The Scot made his First Division debut as a second-half substitute in a 2–2 draw against Burnley at Old Trafford on the 9th of September 1967 and made his first start in a 3–1 Division One defeat against Nottingham Forest at City Ground on the 28th of the same month. After making only 12 first-team appearances for The Reds, however, he was sold to Second Division Blackburn Rovers for an estimated transfer fee of £25,000 at the back end of the 1969-70 season and would spend over two years at Ewood Park before joining Scottish First Division Dundee United midway through the 1971-72 campaign. Kopel was an instant hit with the fans and would play close to 400 matches in all competitions for The Terrors while at Tannadice. He eventually finished his playing days at Arbroath where he made 62 Scottish League appearances between 1982 and 1984.
