Dion Dublin, born Leicester, England, April 22, 1969. Dion Dublin ignited his career as a central defender with Norwich City in 1985 before he moved on to Fourth Division outfit Cambridge United where he was converted into a centre-forward by Abbey Stadium manager John Beck. Then followed a Captain Cook’s Tour around Great Britain that saw him appear for a host of clubs in need of a consistent and dependable striker.
Greatly impressed by the Cambridge United marksman, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson signed Dion Dublin for a transfer fee somewhere in the region of £1 million at the beginning of the 1992-93 season. The lethal finisher was handed his Premier League debut for The Reds when he entered the field as a substitute for Russian winger Andrei Kanchelskis in a 1-2 defeat against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on the 15th of August 1992 and scored his first goal for the club when he netted a late winner in a 1-0 Premiership triumph against Southampton at The Dell nine days later. Unfortunately, Dublin had his football career hampered by a number of serious injuries and his Premier League appearances were restricted to a mere twelve matches in his two years at Manchester United, and as things turned out, the injury prone player was transferred to Coventry City for a fee of £2 million at the start of the 1994-95 campaign. Following a successful spell at Highfield Road, the sought after goal poacher joined Aston Villa, and later Leicester City. Former Manchester United midfielder Gordon Strachan eventually brought Dublin to Celtic where the nomadic frontman won the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Premier League with the Parkhead side before he decided to team up with old club Norwich City on the 20th of September 2006. After making his international senior debut for England in a 2-0 friendly fixture loss to Chile at Wembley Stadium on the 11th of February 1998, Dublin went on to collect four full caps for the country of his birth.
